    State Regulations?

I'm brand new to the world of erosion control, but have recently started a hydroseeding business.  I'm considering adding "erosion control" to the services I offer.  I plan to do erosion control mainly on ditches, retention ponds, sloped yards and the like, but may want to look into opportunities with the State for highway work, and major construction companies for site work..

Does anyone know if the State of North Carolina has any specific regulations regarding erosion control?  Are there licenses or special permits?  Can anyone go into the business, or are there some strict regulations governing the trade?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: State Regulations?

Most states have strict guide lines for erosion control contractors. Minnesota requires certified payroll, prevailing wages, erosion control certification thru the state university, and your standard liability insurance.  They can be a pain to work with at times.  They like to stay in the darks ages of erosion control.  Most states have all the material specifications online.  Good Luck!

Try contacting the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) and discuss with them your concerns.  They should be able to point you in the right direction regarding these issues.  The website I pulled the information off of was http://www.ncdot.org/contact/

    NCDOT General Public

I hope this helps you out.  Thanks!

    Re: State Regulations?

Thanks for the info!  I'll check with the NCDOT as you suggested.  Hopefully their regulations aren't too much of a burden.  I've just started my hydroseeding biz, and doing a bit of "non-residential" work might add some revenue.  I've got a 500 gal. hybrid machine that's both mechanical and jet agitated so I can "shoot" almost any mixture...its a perfect machine for "erosion control", plus I can fill up directly from a pond, lake or river.

Again, thanks for the information.  Its much appreciated.

What are you putting in your machines to shoot?  Product names?  Wood, Paper, Straw?

We use Profile products mostly.  70/30 for lawns and flat ground and BFM or Flexterra FGM for steep slopes.
